The best running shoes for beginners

You don’t need much to run, but the right running shoe is a must. Why? Because worn out sneakers or everyday sneakers are the main reason for injuries. They simply don’t give the foot the stability it needs to run. In addition, you are guaranteed to be surprised how easy it is to suddenly find a new, fitting shoe.

This is what you need to know before buying running shoes

First of all: Even if we provide you with the direct link to order online here – nothing replaces individual advice in a sports shop. A running shoe retailer recognizes misaligned feet that you may not have known about and can recommend the right model for you. We can only provide general tips on the basis of which you then have to decide for yourself whether the shoe could fit.

  • Fitting: Even if you order online, nothing beats a fitting. Ideally, you order several models in different sizes and choose the right one.
  • Size: As a rule of thumb, running shoes should be bought one size larger than everyday shoes. Because the foot needs more space when running than when walking.
  • Fit: A shoe fits if it doesn’t pinch anywhere, there is a thumb’s width between the big toe and the tip of the shoe and you feel completely comfortable in it.
  • Price: More expensive is not always better. Normal cushioning shoes for runners without a misalignment usually cost between 120 and 140 euros.
  • Neutral or stable: The distinction between neutral and stable shoes is common. If you don’t have any misaligned feet, you are usually well advised to wear a neutral shoe. Anyone whose foot bends inward while running or who is overweight will benefit from a robust, stable shoe.
  • Model name: Many classic models have been around for a long time and are regularly revised by the manufacturers. You can usually tell which version it is from the sequential numbers in the model name. Tip: Previous models are often an inexpensive alternative.

To shape your healthy body, the GT-2000 is a good choice (current model GT-2000 8). If you’ve ever noticed or someone told you that you bend your foot inward while running, it is a particularly good choice. Because it is a so-called stable shoe that can prevent this.

Nike Pegasus

Manufacturer

Type: Neutral shoe

Another stylish model: The Air Zoom Pegasus (current model Pegasus 36) is very convincing smooth running feeling and its slim, close-fitting design. As with the Ultraboost, this is also a neutral shoe. Type: Neutral shoe

This model is currently the ultimate when it comes to combining lightness and comfort. The Fresh Foam 1080 v10, as this shoe is currently called by its full name, weighs only 238 grams in the men’s version. So he is the firstthe lightest model in this overview and runs accordingly effortlessly. And something else makes this neutral shoe special: it has a so-called “rocker sole”. In other words, the sole is curved at the front and back, like a rocking chair. A construction that is supposed to provide more momentum when rolling and is currently very popular in the running shoe industry.

Mizuno Wave Rider

Manufacturer

Type: Neutral shoe

Fans love the high heel of Mizuno shoes. This value provides information about how much higher the heel is compared to the toes. A drop of 0 millimeters corresponds to the natural position of the foot. The Mizuno Wave Rider (current model Waver Rider 23) comes with a drop of 12 millimeters. That should ensure that the foot “rolls” more dynamically over the heel. Whether you like it in practice or not is ultimately a matter of taste. In addition, this model stands for the eponymous “Wave” technology. A wave-shaped plate built into the sole controls the pronation movement.

New Balance 880

New Balance 880 v9 women

Manufacturer

Order here: Female model
Type: Neutral shoe

The New Balance 880 (current model 880 v9) is a rather inconspicuous shoe. And yet it is the first choice for many runners. The running feeling is characteristic not too hard, but not too soft either is. In the popular trend of super-soft shoes, many athletes praise the more direct feeling that the firmer midsole gives. The shoe therefore still feels a bit stiff when you try it on for the first time and for the first few meters. On the other hand, this is exactly what gives you the security that beginners in particular want.

Asics Gel Cumulus

Asics Gel-Cumulus 21

Manufacturer

Order here: Female model
Type: Neutral shoe

The Cumulus is a real Asics classic (current version Cumulus 21). As with many Asics models, it also uses “gel technology”. A gel layer is built into the sole in order to soften the impact like a shock absorber. The result is a fresh feeling of running, but that not that soft fails, as with comparable models. Runners who do not like the cotton-soft feeling of many running shoes can be happy with this model. If you are looking for a shoe that supports your foot well, this is the right place for you. Caution: Asics shoes are usually small and slim. When in doubt, take one size larger.

Brooks Glycerin

Brooks Glycerin 17
